What do you get when you throw in a semester full of debate tournaments, events to organize, lots of getaways and another ton of parties to be attended with your most favourite people?
You get my life in the last semester of Law School. As the time to leave draws near, I can nearly see the horizon. Possibilities and memories aplenty. But without getting into that right now, let me give you one of my favourite shoots of recent times. Sorry, the saree pictures are still unavailable :)
I am a huge fan of comfortable trendy Tees. I think if they are paired with the right bottoms and appropriately accessorized, there are possibilities infinite of dressing up your cute tee. I have shown you similiar posts in the past but this one's extra special.

The Wedding Saga

I realise I went on a blogging sabbatical yet again but you must understand that a law student's life ain't easy. Ok bull shit, I was holiday-ing away and attending a big, fat Indian wedding. With family down from all over, I had a whale of a time dressing up for each ritual that we include in a big fat Indian wedding! From wrapping gifts in gorgeous little designer boxes to picking jewelery. From salon hunting for the best hair styling to picking a saree, I did really do it all in those 5 days! For those who follow me on facebook and twitter will know what I wore for the cocktail/engagement. For some more snippets, scroll down to see my hair-do for the grand wedding which went along with a saree. (Yes, I finally got around to wearing one!)
The hair-do required almost 50 bobby pins, some back combing, hair spray, twisting bunches of hair, and braiding a long braid at the back of the head, across.

Nature's Co. comes to Bangalore

Nature's Co. is one of those places which I talked about when I reviewed the Lush Lip Scrub. The kind you can sense from far away in a mall. The most delightful to the olfactory senses. So when I heard that The Nature's Co. was hopping on the bandwagon of the host of awesome stores now available to the Bangalore fashionistas, I was delighted. Very excited about having been invited to the launch, it turned out to be every bit as exciting. From a complete brief on all that Nature's Co. has to offer from the founder, the lovely Ms. Natasha to getting to meet some known faces in the Bangalore fashion/beauty circle, the launch was the place to be. The Nature's Co. takes its inspiration from the 5 purest forms of nature, those being: Atmospure, Starrize, Foressence, Earthborne, Aquaspark. The products are 100% natural, vegan and environment-friendly. As a little gift to all her guests, she also gave out Valentine's Day special goodie bags which contain Choco-mint body butter, Cranberry exfoliating body wash and a lovely aromatic candle. Serendipity: Beach Style

Amidst all the crazy ass commercial beaches and shacks at Goa, there lie the undisturbed beaches of South Goa. So as fun partying it up in North Goa is, I need to balance out my holiday zen by getting myself some me-time. Serendipity indeed when you find this beach just next to your resort. Silver sands, infinitesimal commercialism, the sun and the quiet. Just the perfect place to bum around and also get some nice shots with the new camera ;)
I did hit the Saturday night flea bazaar too but not with astounding things in my kitty thereafter. A lot of fun and a bunch of good memories though :)
Look out for the perfect denim tunic dress and the hints of neon in my Goa day 2 outfit.

The DIY I picked in Goa

I love my holidays just as much as the other person and to bring back something for my blog in terms of a DIY or a trend or just an over load of information on travel and fashion gives me an immense satisfaction! Yes, I take it seriously =)
I can't think of many people who wouldn't rave about the sand and fun under the sun, business of Goa! And if such a holiday comes right in the middle of my last semester in Law school which is dreary like no other, it couldn't be more welcome. At this particular beach, I picked a very popular beachy trend that would come in handy for all those who don't wanna go all the way to Goa to get these cute woolen braids in their hair!
Its as simple as this and I hope the pictures would guide you along:
Pick the 3-4 colorful woolen strands of your choice and pick a thin section of your hair wherever you would like to place the braid. Start with putting a knot with the threads on that section at the top. Follow that by placing them side by side, leaving no space, around the section of your hair, wrapping it as you go.
When you're nearing the bottom, place another tie and start making a multiple fork braid with the section of the hair and the woolen strands. Fasten two knots at the bottom and snip of the extra. You're good to go =)

Trend Alert Spring 2012

The Spring 2012 reports are out. Spring's almost here and its time to pack those super ginormous chunky woollens inside and say hello to Spring-Summer. While it is important that we go by the international fashion scene but my idea is always to customize a trend to make it workable for your climatic and geographical situation. Its okay if you aren't so sure about sporting a trend, save it for later or sport it in small doses. You do not need a complete wardrobe make over necessarily. Take your basic pieces and add bits of spring-a-licious trends to it and watch the outfit shine through! Now on to some key trends you're going to be witnessing this season and you might want to be a part of :)

The Roaring '20s: I wasn't so sure of what this trend would entail but looks like the red lipped, jazz loving, hip swinging era is back. Art deco goes glitz and glam, so take your sequined, bejeweled pieces from the last holiday season and do it with style in the Roaring '20s.

If full glam deco is not your style, try smaller doses of the trend. This rare deco embellished tunic dress fits the bill. Quite literally! :D

The Neons: Yes, we've seen neons do the rounds in the international scene but a little bit of neon to your wardrobe this spring might just be the pinch of style you need. This fluro trim across body bag gives you that dash of neon without blinding people or making you too conscious of sporting such a bright color. The brogue detailing just helps! :)

Pastels and ice cream colors: Its not such a contradiction with the neon because the two trends co-exist and unless you decide to mash up the two in an over-the-top manner, there is no worry there. :) I like calling it the ice cream color trend coz a lot of fashion forecasts rightly call it so. These frosty shades of peaches, pale pinks, sky and azure blues, mint greens are as cooling for the season as they are to the sight. :)

Peplum: Balenciaga did it and peplum style of a short over skirt with a fitted jacket or a blouse attached, is back and to me its cuteness to the power infinity. Ok, yuck, I didn't say that! But no really, the style is making me want to go back to the 50's!

Its safe to say that apart from these bobbing trends, the maxi dresses for their liquid feel and comfort continue to make waves. Draped detailing in long tunics and exaggerated hemlines will also make news in my opinion.

While I'm Away

This post was supposed to go up while I was gone. For some reasons it didn't so I'm posting it now that my week long sabbatical ends. I was away for a little get-away of sorts (read: debate tournament) and its quite good to be back, given the victorious feeling from the tournament and the urge to get into my bed and curl up like a snoozie-doozie kitten! :)
I'm now working with my new baby (a DSLR) and I can't wait to start exploring different avenues of photography with it. This post was shot at night with the new baby, almost like a test run but some of the pictures turned out unbelievably good to not post. Now back to curling up under my comforter. :)

Don't give me That look

If you believe that hats are for occasions that have traditionally required hats as a dress code to attend such events, for example a polo match, derby et al, then you might find me slightly bonkers. Which is fine by me because hats have that 'je ne sais quoi' that makes me want to pick them and adorn them whenever I feel like 'dressing up'. This pretty thing was sitting on a shelf at Forever New and if you have been here long enough you will know that I am a regular at the store and probably own a chunk of their stuff. And just like that I propped it on my head and it felt just right =)
I am also tired of the 'looks'. Yes, you know what I'm talking about. Step out in a hat and a dress-Looks. Step into a shopping mall to head to your favourite restaurant for lunch-Looks. You would expect that its a fancy dining venue and the Looks will stop, but hardly. But I have learned to give a damn and if I want to wear a hat to lunch, I just will. =)

Lights will guide you home

Somethings have an absolutely soothing effect on you. For me one of those things is definitely music. I am sure you would remember me ranting on and on about some track that would be stuck in my head for the longest while and I would find it undeniably important to mention it in a post. One of those days when Fix You by Coldplay was stuck in my head. And more than the rest of the song, lights will guide you home seemed to be resounding, more so because on many levels, that rings very true when you hear the rest of the song.
More importantly, this is the first OOTD of 2012 and its exciting to debut a lot of goodies I accumulated over my Christmas shopping, here. You will see elements of lace, sequins and cobalt blue. All of which were a rage in the festive season. (Yes, its easier to categorize seasons like that :D )
The pseudo-chignon was done for my by my friend and it lends a romantic feel to contrast the glam of the clutch.

Tropical Pursuits

With all the glitz and glam of the festive season in full swing, it was almost a sartorial relief to find an outfit post that was pending and leaning toward the casual chic side.
I have forever been in love with a staple white shirt which you would have seen here and here. I have worn it in two absolutely different ways in the posts and in this one I have tried a particularly simple style that works for every season. All it takes is your favourite scarf =)
To complement the white and black monotones, I have thrown on a tropical floral printed scarf with thin rows of transparent sequins on it. Its warm, bright and definitely glams up my attire, just the right amount.
With the year drawing to an end, its probably the right time to tell you guys how rewarding the year has been as a blogger and with all the warmth and love that has come my way from you guys. Keep it coming in and I promise to keep the blog churning out more interesting and informative posts that will give you an insight on my take on fashion and style.

Travelogue: Kashmir

It gives me immense pleasure to be writing a post for FTLOFAOT, it being one of the few blogs that I most religiously follow. And who am I? I am Mahima, a blogger and writer by choice and a keen observer by nature. You’ll find my random musings at Welcome to My Paradise. I’d been meaning to write this guest post ever since Shreya first came out with the idea of having a series of guest posts on her blog. Yet I somehow never actually managed to write one. But today I finally coaxed myself to sit down and write it down in one go. So here’s a post that gives you a glimpse at the extremely beautiful valley of Kashmir as seen by Yours Truly’s eyes on her recent trip there. :)

Whoever said Kashmir is heaven on Earth couldn’t have been more right. I visited Srinagar and Gulmarg early this November for a leisure trip. And trust me when I say, winter is the time to visit Kashmir. With its multi-hued Chinar trees, snow-capped mountains and a pleasant nip in the air, the Valley does not get more beautiful than this. Period. Here I reproduce some of the pictures I clicked. You’re bound to fall in love with the place once you look at its resplendence!:)

The Dal Lake, one of the major attractions of the city of Srinagar, looks magnificent at dusk.

You got to take an evening ride on a Shikara to be able to marvel at the sheer beauty of the lake.

Snow-covered ground shrouded by dense fog in Gulmarg. It was chilly! :D

Don’t I just love the beautifully shaped leaf of the Chinar tree that is native to the Valley. It never fails to mesmerize me!

And as if such splendid beauty was not enough, the people of Kashmir are very warm and hospitable too. There is this perfectly languid and calm air about the place that just unnerves you, making you feel content and relaxed. You have to be there to revel in the magic that the entire place exudes.

Okay, now for some shopping related stuff. After all, isn’t that what this blog is all about? :D

So I found this little shop in a by-lane of Lal Chowk (the most important market of Srinagar city) that sells souvenirs such as pen stands, decorative items, little models of houseboats and shikaras, keyrings, beautiful accessories et al, all carved and hand painted by local artisans. It had me fascinated, making me look on for what seemed like a long while. I finally bought a few wooden keyrings in the shape of Shikaras and little dolls for my friends here in Delhi, and a wooden bell, and a pen stand, and a candle stand too. *grin* Have a look at the shop.

I just discovered how long this post is getting. So to cut the long story short, Kashmir is the ultimate paradise on Earth. No amount of conflict, violence or terrorist activities can ever take away the grandeur of the place. Did I forget to mention that this was my second visit to the state? That is the magic of Kashmir. It beckons you to keep coming back. I just hope this post inspires the readers to take some time out from their busy lives to just rejuvenate and unwind in the sheer majesty of the Valley of Kashmir.

Over the rainbow

I was having a conversation with my sister who you have seen here, about what she planned to wear for NYE. She told me about a dress she had picked from BCBG and when I asked her how it looked, with the most earnest curiosity and interest, she explained how it looked with a little disclaimer that "it might not look jaw-dropping(ly) exquisite to you, but it made me feel special". *Silence*
We laughed for hours on end over that statement coz on the face of it, it was so fairy tale-esque and straight out of a chick flick moment of sorts, but I thought about it later for a while and it struck me that the parameters to pick clothes for most of us are actually quite simple. We buy clothes that make us feel special. Or a piece of jewelery that makes us feel special. I, for one have never been able to wear something that I did not feel happy in but another person thought it would look good on me/was absolutely bang-on the fashion meter.
And that, dear readers was a little introduction to my current favourite over-sized shirt with hearts all over it. It makes me happy :D

Luckily for me, Bangalore wasn't this abysmally cold a while back when I shot in this outfit and nothing, I repeat nothing is as comfortable as a flowy shirt and a cute pair of shorts! :)

Adding Drama with Lilac

What is black, staple and not an LBD?
A black well-fitted skirt! :)
In my case, its a cigarette skirt. This black skirt actually has transformation powers. When paired with a crisp white shirt it transforms into my official attire (yes, lawyers like power dressing :D ) and paired with a loose, flowy shirt/blouse/kaftan its perfect for that night out in the city.
This outfit was actually built around this flowy, pleated top that I picked, with ruffles at the top. After some brain storming, I decided that to lend it its true flowy feel, it needed to be paired with a cigarette skirt like this. The Lilac of the top makes me think of the cool night breeze and the myriad of colors the sea takes under the moonlight and Lilac being one of them. Who said fashion had nothing to do with philosophy or literature? :)
For those of you following me on twitter will know, I got a hair cut and was lucky coz Savio John was in town :) I have been asked by certain people *you know who you are* to keep this bed head look and not clean it up with a blow dry or a straightener. I am actually happy with the results so I'm not complaining, not here at least. :P

Makeup Hits this month

I am actually writing this post in the middle of my exams but its almost like I owed it to my blog. And also the fact that two cute little packages wangled their way into my mail box and their presence was almost hard to ignore. (First break that I took from my books, I leapt off my bed to try little swatches to make sure they're as awesome as I anticipated)

These are 3 new make up products that I'm absolutely going to have a blast using this month. Of course, I shall keep adding new ones to this list but for now, this will have to do.

Nyx Rouge Cream Blush in Golden

Loving the natural, dewy look of this cream blush. The golden isn't really golden like I wished. Its more of an earthy pink tone. Over all: Light and natural.

2. Orly Miniature Nail Lacquer in Hair Band(Yes, thats the name of the color :D )

Two coats of this nail lacquer is enough to make your nails appear like disco balls which is exactly the look that I'm going for this festive season. Super glittery, festive nails. Absolute worth for my money, the chunky glitter of Orly makes me look at my nails with pride! :D

3. Chambor Lipstick in Silk Pops

Ok so my lipstick looks like its been vandalized a little. It actually just happened during the process of taking these pictures. Moving on, love this pop of color on my lips. Its pink, more on the subtle end and yet gives the lips a lovely silky color. My go-to for all occasions safe lipstick now :D

Green Day

Fall-Winter has me hooked to cardigans and which is why you will probably see me OD on cardigans and layer them with shirts, blouses, scarves etc. Cardigans in bright pops of color like this one will probably give your dull grey winter the much needed cheer and holly. (Green? Christmas? Ok, chuck it!)
I saw Desi Boyz today and it definitely deserves a mention here. What a respite from a lot of trash being churned out off late! Pure unadulterated mindless (and not slapstick, thank god for that!) humour which delivers as promises.
Anyway, back to the outfit, just a casual outfit, layered with a cardigan over my favourite ruffled blouse. Accessories, my new favourite lipstick and my minty green heels to go with the rich forest green cardigan are the primary elements of this fun, Bangalore-weather outfit.

Convert thy outfit

The outfit posts are back on a roll and maybe you will rejoice that its coming at such a time where I'm dealing with the slight chill of Bangalore. This was an outfit post that I had in mind for a while and the foundation of this post comes from the idea that its not difficult to convert a day vintage-inspired outfit to a night out one. What I have really done here is keep my current favourite fall piece, mustard cardigan intact in both the outfits and played around with the make up and accessories. Take a look.

The picture on the left is as I traveled. I feel slightly cold on flights so I really would not travel without something warm on me! Yes, fine. Have your laugh :P
So I decided on high waisted cropped pants, a singlet and my current favourite cardigan. My accessories are just a stack of metallic bangles and a bow ring with pearls. I use a geometric nude hold-all to complement this look.

As opposed to this look, I use a bright reddish-orange lipstick (French Rose by Faces) and some blush on with the same outfit, a nude clutch by Aldo and a statement necklace in pearls to complement the vintage look for a night out.

So all you really need are the right accessories, a bright lip color, some cheek tint and a pair of heels (if you really must!) to transform a chic day look to a stunner night look :)

Maybelline lasting drama Gel Eye liner

This is a review which has been long pending simply because this is definitely my pick for a kajal/liner this season. As if Maybelline Colossal Kajal wasn't a style deal enough, they come up with this smooth as hell product.

What Maybelline says about the product:

• Oil-free formula holds highly concentrated pigments in a clear gel base
• Smudge-proof and waterwproof for 24 hours
• Most intense line for lasting drama
• Safe for sensitive eyes and ophthalmologist-tested
• Contact lens safe

My take:

Highly concentrated, gel based wonder. Smudge-proof definitely. Apply in the morning and it will get you through till the evening without a touch up. My skin is a normal type so I can't say whether it works the same way for oily skin. The best part is the application of it with this sleek brush which is sturdy and sleek and not the thick sorts which starts opening up after a few applications.
My mom however did express a genuine worry about how the brush becomes a little hard if its not in regular application.
All in all, more than satisfactory. I would definitely repurchase this one. Using it is like painting with thin, neat strokes :)

I tried a winged eyeliner look with this product and here is a glimpse of it. It was awfully easy to get this with this product.

India Resort Fashion Week 2011- Launch

Here is a an exciting bit of news for all you multiple Fashion Week fans out there. India is now foraying into organizing an Indian Resort Fashion Week, this year taking place at Grand Hyatt, Goa. The event scheduled from 7th – 10th of December 2011 is poised as the most anticipated fashion event of the year, with the country’s most coveted designers showcasing the best in Indian resort wear.
We've all seen how big the resort wear collections of international biggies turn out to be. Maybe it was time our designers followed suit. :)
The grand launch of the India Resort Fashion Week 2011 took place on Tuesday, 15th November, 12 noon at Escobar Bandra. Present at the occasion were renowned fashion designers Shantanu & Nikhil, Shivan & Narresh, James Ferreira and Narendra Kumar to announce the launch of this IRFW 2011. (Sucks that I couldn't make it! )
India Resort Fashion Week 2011 presented by INK Infrastructure in association with YUVA & powered by Provogue made their first announcement over high tea at Escobar, Bandra. Present at the press conference were Delhi's coveted designers Shantanu & Nikhil, Shivan & Narresh, Bombay designers James Ferriera and Babita Malkani, choreographers Harmeet Bajaj and Lubna Adam to show their support. Also present at the launch was Imtiaz Khatri, owner INK Infrastructure, Shankar Nikalje associate publisher YUVA, Akhil Chaturvedi, Director Provogue India ltd, IRFW promoters Nikhil Oza, Pallav Kumar, Tanya Swetta and Shalini Chuganee, COO IRFW.

A twist in the Tale

Has it happened to you that you were in a state of absolute zen and suddenly you jump out of your bed like a ninja coz you've just had a mad brainwave?
Well it happens to me quite often and more often than not, these are bursts of creativity spouting out in miniature frenzies like these.
Symptoms: Look of absolute concentration, rummaging through closets and trunks with old clothes in an absolute frenzy, causing worry to the family et al.

What I've done with today's outfit is recreate a traditionally printed full length skirt for you in a new avatar. That of a maxi dress. The idea is to pair the old with the new, the bold color of the skirt with a sombre black of the jacket, the fuchsia of the skirt with the midnight blue of the Kurt Geiger flat pumps. It was this one skirt I was particularly looking for when I styled this outfit in my mind and I was glad when I found it amongst my sister's old clothes. Lend your old full length skirts some shape to turn it into a maxi dress by belting it at the top of your waist. Throw in a stack of bracelets, bangles or even a chunky necklace to accessorize this look. But since my skirt(dress) had a lot of golden going on, I just stuck to a couple of blingy stack of bracelets to peek out of the jacket. You could also try a blazer or a cardigan for the same effect.

What does it mean being a stylist in 2011?

Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini is a fashion blog or a fashion diary like the author, Raquel, likes to call it. She talks about everything that happens in her life involving fashion from her hair to her shoes including her thoughts. Raquel is a 27 year old Portuguese girl who apart from her blog, works full time as a stylist in a Fashion company. Before she embraced the fashion industry she worked as a journalist for several years and made a Masters in England in Cinema, her greatest passion.
Here is an article she was kind enough to write for my blog and promises to be an insider's perspective.

What does it mean being a stylist in 2011?
My job description is "stylist", but I’m much more than that. It’s impossible not to be more than that in 2011. To be a stylist means I also need to be a fashion advisor, market analyst, a buyer, a street style photographer, a blog writer and reader. At least in my company and I want to believe that the same happens everywhere. So well, the question is: Does styling mean different kinds of jobs in the fashion world? Is the concept of a stylist changing? If yes, what is causing this mutation?

For the first question I must say I’m still figuring out the answer… I think your stylist job depends on each fashion area that you work in. Of course your tasks change when you’re working for a magazine, for e-commerce or for a factory. It depends if you’re working with high street brands or fast fashion stores. But the grounds are the same: fashion knowledge, aesthetic sensibility, innovation spirit! I believe there is place in the world for different concepts of this career but I also believe being a stylist in 2011 is no longer the same it was back in the time when I was a journalist. Everyone working in this area should pay attention to the blogosphere, everyone should go to the streets once in a while and take pictures of people whose style is impressive, everyone should go to concerts, exhibitions, movies and take inspirations from what the cultural art/ industry gives us. And that is what mainly changed in the styling career, the fashion world is no longer the same, the rules are vanishing and you must be ready for working in a fashion anarchy.
There are two major examples of 2010 hits that could be mentioned: Mulberry Alexa bag and Moschino vintage belt. I’m pretty sure that Alexa was the sensation of this season because style icons used it everywhere. And when I talk about style icons I’m thinking about girls like Olivia Palermo and, of course, Alexa Chung. They covered the magazines pages with their style and they were copied by the readers and bloggers. Thousands of people read these blogs and wanted to have a similar bag. Hundreds of fast fashion brands presented low cost solutions and in less than nothing the blogosphere and websites like lookbook.nu were crowded by satchel bags. The Moschino black and golden belt is even a more consistent example of the street style influence. This belt for decades, was considered cheesy for most fashion canons. One started using it and then others found the same belt in the mother’s closet. Suddenly the belt is in every daily style website and is one of the most wanted items on eBay.

How can you be a stylist in 2011 if you have no idea of what’s happening in the real girls' and boys' minds? You can’t. But most important of all and that’s the main point of this article, stylists should not copy or get inspired by just this. They should create that inspiration and this happens if you go further than your limits. Analyze what’s already done and aim bigger, think different. Do you like a painter? Ask your designers to make a print collection to t-shirts based on a painting. Do you love a song but it’s not popular and no-one heard it on the radio? Great! Think about what that song means to you, think colors, think shapes. Being a stylist in 2011 means artistic, singular work in a world where the massive cultures rule. Do you dare? I will proudly try.

Ok so maybe Kate Middleton might consider this absolutely looney and also bordering on creepy that I have been researching her fashion statements post the Royal Wedding, ever so rigorously. But I'm sure you understand that, that is also a mark of a good well-researched blog post *pats self on back*. So if I haven't given it away in so many words already, I have compiled a post to sum up Kate Middleton's hand picked- few best ever casual-chic fashion moments, post The Wedding. The most exciting aspect of Kate Middleton's style still remains that her classic British roots shine through in all her outfits. Personally for me, a Duchess who is not a slave to designers and wears high-street with as much élan is an out and out winner.

Another interesting facet to Kate's style is the fact that its fairly simple to take a leaf out of her book. Fuss-free shift dresses, blouses in laces and nudes, classic toned wedges and pumps (primarily in black and nude) and throw in classic well-cut jackets and you are good to go.

First and foremost I am Gia from www.giasaysthat.com which is a style blog featuring my personal style.Today i am going to be featuring some of my outfits corresponding to the latest trends and these are some of my favourite pieces from my wardrobe.

I would love to start it out with this outfit.Here i am wearing a Zara Blazer,Shirt from Colaba causeway and Trousers from Asos.High waisted trousers are flattering to any body shape.It might make you look a little shorter but make sure you pair them with heels.

Here i am wearing a bright orange/rust shirt from asos.com and a polka dotted skirt from Colaba.Polka dots are big trend and for this fall/winter the polka dots are going to bigger & better.The bright orange shirt adds a pop of colour to the outfit .

Lace is extremely feminine.You can toughen the look up with a gold chunky chain .I love lace and this dress is from dorothy perkins .To make it look less girly and more edgy/quirky,you can wear a Black lace shirt with high waisted denim shorts.

Here i am wearing the Adelaide blazer from shopatgiasaysthat.com ,floral topshop shirt,skirt from colaba and Suede brogues from Zara.

Diva-li Rants

Season's finest greetings to all my readers across the globe :)
Here in the Indian sub-continent, the festivities begin with the advent of October and only end after ushering in the New Year. So yeah, simply put, its 3 months of absolute, unadulterated fun and festive cheer. Now who wouldn't like that? :)
For this slightly nippy occasion of Diwali where all you see as far as your sight takes you are lights and gleam, I chose to wear an outfit in the combination of Golden and Fuchsia. I broke the rules this time and absolutely refused to wear a full-length Anarkali. Yes, I know that is probably the most sought after style of kurtis today but after having succumbed to different versions of the same in the past, this time I put my foot down.
Maybe you should take a look yourself to decide ;)

This ensemble breaks a lot of rules. Silver embellishments on a golden jamawar, golden bangles teamed up with silver ones but if you know how to do it, you can definitely pull a dull gold and a silver together.

Hey there!
Surprised to see a new face smiling out at you instead of dear old Shreya??? Well.......I'm lucky enough to be guest posting for her today! And I promise not to bore you!! :)
First things first... I'm Polka Princess from Chappals v Stilletoes, a fashion blog which has become more than a hobby for me & which has helped me connect to numerous like-minded fashion-crazy (or not-so-crazy) individuals from all around the world! I'm myself a fashion designer by qualification, a visual merchandiser by profession & a stylist by passion. I started my blog around a year back to share my love of fashion with others & today, I can proudly say that I've established wonderful relationships with some such amazing people from all over the world (the author of this blog being one of them).........& my lovely readers never fail to encourage & support me to take my blog to new heights... :))
When Shreya asked me to guest post for her, I racked my brains for a good idea for a post that'll engage & interest her readers and at the same time, give them an opportunity to experience my personal style sensibilities..........after all, I strongly believe that being one's own self is the core foundation of a good fashion blog!
After much deliberation & not-so-much discussion (with Shreya), I decided to do a post on outfits based on a color theme. I should tell you here that I'm very much of a "colors" person.......... meaning that at any given place & time, you'll find at least 3 different colors on me!
I LOVE COLORS. Period.
So, it's no surprise that my post will be color-related! :)
Well.........I don't know about you all, but I, for one, adore the combination of Blue & Green. I feel that it's a very vibrant & interesting combination that go well with most other colors and that instantly make an outfit worth noticing! In fact, scientifically speaking, there are a good number of reasons why one feels good wearing these colors. Blue is the color of inspiration, sincerity & spirituality, while Green represents nature, life & fertility. Both the colors have a soothing & calming quality and coupled together, they symbolize balance & growth, thus emitting a positive energy. I've tried out this combination on many successful instances & I thought I'll share the same with you all.

This is the outfit from the day I had ventured out to review the Tommy Hilfiger A/W Collection. The uses of my crisp white shirt and light blue skinnies never ceases to amaze me. Add a bauble, a pop of color on my shoes and a sharp,geometrical classy bag and you're good to go.
The Tantrum Shoes as the make is popularly known as is the brain child of an old friend who has launched this gorgeous Princess Collection and indeed, the shoes with the feather+net+rhinestone detailings are fit for a Princess!

Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2011 Collection- A review

A shout out to the people at Tommy Hilfiger India for giving me this opportunity to review their Men and Women Fall Collection-2011, yet again and this time around at their flagship store.
I have always maintained a serious love for preppy and this is probably why I always enjoy picking staple Tommy Hilfiger pieces. The Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2011 Men collection sees the amalgamation of bohemian and preppy. With the 'Indie Music' theme, you see a lot of utilitarian pieces like checked shirts in pastels, chunky knits in the American colors, bomber jackets and my most favourite addition to a Fall wardrobe, a chunky checkered muffler. The brights pops of the knits can be offset with lighter shirts or polo necks, this Fall.
Some of my classic favourites from this collection:

Now to my most favourite part, the women's Fall Collection review. The theme on which this collection is centered is the 'Rock Star's Girlfriend' Look. This includes elements of the '70s with a non chalant air where the clothes take male inspirations and turn them around for an absolutely feminine piece. Classic knits in pops of colors, shirt dresses in tartan prints, staple LBD for the Fall in gorgeous cuts, semblances of tweed in skirts and shorts, silk dresses with exaggerated shoulders, thin cardigans in azure blues and burgundys are some of the best pieces in the collection. I had planned to share with you guys two of my most favourite and staple pieces from the collection in the form of looks. So here goes :)

The first look is a plain flannel shirt in a blue with a large check print and ruffles on the front. Pair it with jeans, high waisted shorts and you're ready to take on Fall, ever so stylishly. Must. Have.
The second look is a staple black dress in a simple classy cut offset with a chunky muffler in gray around your neck. Try this look, this season.
Some of my other favourite looks from the collection at the store:

Tan belts in broad structures, boat shaped loafers and cute duffels were some other highlights of the Fall Collection which you could also probably consider adding to your accessory collection.
An impressive collection, in short and one with versatile pieces that actually might not see the inside of your trunks every alternate year. Tommy Hilfiger does preppy proud, yet again :)

The element of Fluorescent

Happy Weekend readers!
I know I should technically end a post with that but this week, the weekend was much awaited at my end. Simply because the drudgery of the week seemed to drag on. After a lazy-ass day, I finally decided to play dress-up and step out for a movie. Perfect opportunity to also show you guys, my buy from Nirvana-Pondicherry, you read about it here.
The tote bag with the Raj Comics digital print and the sequin detailing is my fluorescent element to the outfit and its brings the much desired color to my weekend. Also note how it looks nice against the color of my palazzo pants and Orange-ish red of my lip color.
With all that discussion of colors and fluorescence, I leave you to decide. :)

Product Love: Hugo Boss Orange

Its almost surprising that a perfume junkie like me had not, till about now, done a perfume post on my blog. I have an immense love for perfumes, taking after my parents and sister I assume and even though my signature fragrance would hardly ever change, I still love stocking up on new fragrances.
Current obsession, almost unhealthy: Hugo Boss Orange.
Now now, I know it was launched in 2009 and its a little too late to be trying it and liking it but what the hell, I have limitations too :D
With Sienna Miller as the face of this fragrance, it comes as no surprise that this modern chic fragrance has a very trendy flacon to flaunt in your closets or on your dressing tables.
This is the description of this fragrance by Hugo Boss:
Top notes describe strong personality of a woman, her enthusiasm and energy. Notes of sweet apple reveal the first, delicate taste of feminine passions, adding a floral, soft and charming heart. White flowers, which are tame and gentle, are mixed with orange blossom, giving an optimistic impression. A base includes sandalwood, olive wood and creamy vanilla, which make the finish very characteristic, passionate and warm.
The flacon is very modern; it combines elements of metal and glass (orange glass stones). 7 identical, symbolic stones cut light and characterize 7 chakras, deeper spiritual dimensions. Stream of energy through human body is symbolically presented with design of the new Boss flacon.

My word:

Its a light, fruity fragrance that gets you through the day. It might not get you through the whole day without reapplication if you are going to be running around for all and sundry under the crazy Sun. But then again, it does not claim to be that strong. Favourite notes: the orange and the vanilla. They linger the longest and are definitely the finest.

Also, it makes me think of Orange Lindt Chocolate coz I'm one of the few people who enjoy orange and chocolate together. Much like mint and chocolate. :)

Price: Rs. 2970 for 50 ml. Also available in 30 ml and 75 ml.

Pondicherry continues

Saturday melted into a Sunday and its quite surprising that it has already been a week since my last holiday. Do I feel the need of another holiday real soon? Sure do. After a really tough week, it actually feels good to sit propped with my laptop with me to post some pictures of the second day of what was, one hell of a getaway. For all those of you who asked, I shall post pictures of what I bought from Nirvana, soon enough :)
If you do happen to visit Pondicherry, do visit the Le Hidesign Cafe for its all day breakfast. It has been constructed in a way that the first 3 floors showcase the Hidesign goodies( read: bags, satchels, purses et al) and the top most floor is a cafe with the utmost avant-garde interiors and great food. Suggestion: Do not give the white chocolate Creme Brulee a miss.
On a random note, I'm looking forward to 3 days of rigorous debating from tomorrow. The debate tournament shall keep me busy but in case debates about China-Tibet conflicts, economic policies of developing countries, Anna Hazare and the flaws with the Lokpal bill et al do interest you, then you always have the option of following me on twitter.

Nirvana in Pondicherry

The weekend getaways are my method of regaining my zen mode. What can some sun, sand, beaches, french food, some shopping not do. It can work wonders if you ask me. So when I found this little pop-art kitsch boutique on the Rue Suffren Street of Pondicherry, my joy knew no bounds. It was hard to say which one was I happier with, my supremely kitsch buy from the store or all the pictures I took to share with you guys in a post for the store.
The store goes by the name of Nirvana and is run by a sweet French lady who has been a resident of Pondicherry for a long while now. The graffiti on the walls outside the store shout out the theme and the insides are not disappointing either. From bags to wallets, tee shirts to cushions, little miniatures of autos, small pouches and almost everything you can kitschy-fy, you are bound to find here. The prints include old bollywood and tollywood scenes in digital colors, blingy-fied with sequins. The most popular and my personal favourite is a print of a cover of Raj Comics, which were a hit with all kids when I was growing up. To me, such pop art, kitsch bobo style of fashion signifies, India's being. To having witnessed all these milestones of India's being and now seeing the same imprinted on articles as objects of fashion is the portrayal of fashion as a phenomenon which goes way deeper into our roots than it appears to on the surface.

Yep, thats me squinting in the sun.

The biggest incentive to drop in at Nirvana if you're scaling Pondicherry is that it doesn't cost a bomb to add this dash of quirkiness to your fashion quotient. Beginning from Rs.250, you can find a piece of Nirvana to take with you back home.

Garnier Tinted Eye Roll On

Its been a while since I did a review. Primarily because I do not do reviews of make up products half as well as some of the awesome make up bloggers around and also coz I enjoy apparel and accessories a little more :)
But, Garnier tinted eye roll on is one product which has me so hooked, you could swear it had caffeine in it!
Oh wait, it really does. Presenting to you, Garnier Caffeine Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roll-on which claims this:

Moisturising eye care and a cooling roller ball: refreshes & hydrates tired looking eyes

With mineral pigments it instantly covers dark circles

On the first count, I'm not too sure of the cooling effect. However, it does hydrate puffy looking eyes and make your eyes look brighter. Your kohl is very likely to look so much brighter and better in general, if the area under your eyes is not puffy and discolored.
On the second count, it does work well for your dark circles. It might not do what a concealer does, but for everyday wear, its perfect coz a) Its available in shades for every skin tone (medium, fair, very fair), b)You can use very little and blend it in with your index finger and it blends in well, c) You do not necessarily need to use it with a make up base unlike a concealer.

I think I will be using this one for a long while. For those exceptionally annoying college Mondays, work Mondays or any other week day, its a good bet.

The love affair continues

Lets begin with the more exciting news first. Most of you would remember that I am quite a passionate writer and along with fashion content writing, I also do writings on random musings of life, short stories, poetry et al. Two of my short stories have been published in the Chicken Soup India series and I hope some of you at least will go and buy them off the stands and read my stories :D One of them is Chicken Soup for the Indian Soul on Friendship and the other one is Chicken Soup for the Indian Soul- teens talk relationships.

Hyderabad- the last chapter

I am going to miss Hyderabad sorely. No, I haven't lived there forever. Or lived there for a stretch of more than a weekend but there are just some places in this world which form an instant connect. And those are the places you love visiting, hail or sun. Those are the places which you associate with happy memories. And the land of the Nawabs, the delish kebabs, the bangle bazar, the cupcake bakery we love so much, that favourite grilled food restaurant, those shoe stores I love shopping at, will always remain a favourite.

I love those posts where I'm bubbling with excitement to tell you about an absolutely fantastic find. Sometimes its just the most ridiculously obvious idea I might have come up with, but what the hell, its my little reason to bounce off the walls!

Once upon a time

I don't think I could explain the birth of this outfit. I mean I could always try. But a better idea would still be to tell you that this outfit is very vintage-inspired. The influence of the frills, polka dots, butterfly print along with bits of modern and luxe thrown in for good measure. Note the Eiffel Tower earrings and pink suede wedges.
When it came to adding a bag to it, I decided to add a pop of coral to the outfit I had already planned. It was almost an impulse. But stress free, I think I can say it turned out fairly alright.
I loved how I felt very- Parisian the whole day when I trotted around in this outfit.
On another note, what is with people staring when you walk around in heels in the middle of the day? It almost makes you feel like you forgot to put on an article of clothing. If looks could kill >-<

Indians love a good reason to celebrate

A very Happy Rakshabandhan to all my Indian readers :) For all the international ones, its a brother-sister festivity and its obviously got a lot of history attached to it. To cut the long story short, its a day when siblings pamper each other with fancy lunches, pretty pressies and lots of good wishes ( that's my definition, at least :D)
I'm lucky enough to have my first cousin in my city and I loveeee our day together and doing all those fun things that I just mentioned above :)
I am usually very kicked about the whole affair and I kick start the preparations and all that jazz a couple of days before. Getting my outfit together, jewelery to go with it, shoes and most importantly the mehendi (henna application) on the palms :) For all you guys who follow me here, you probably saw what my mehendi looked like before it dried up and now for unveiling the big, fat Indian celebration outfit and the mehendi :)

Some tips to make your mehendi color set better. And these are tried and tested! :)

You will know the usual lemon and sugar deal. Apply it at least twice when the mehendi is on.
Rub a lot of vicks vaporub on your palms post scraping off the dried mehendi. Its my most workable tip ever! The color rises for atleast 24 hours so you can keep re-applying it within 24 hours.
The vapours of cloves help a lot. The idea is to create a lot of heat so it helps to warm your hands over the vapours and the clove acts like a catalyst.
Mustard oil can also be rubbed on your palms as an alternative to these.

On another note, when life gives you lemons..squeeze them. Think about it :)

A Postcard from Hyderabad

The Land of Nizams has a lot to offer. From the the greatly influenced architecture that you see in the monuments like Char Minar or other minarets to the absolutely scrumptious biryani and kebabs. Not wanting to sound like an advertisement for Incredible India, I will still tell you that I'm in love with the city. Before this weekend, I went to Hyderabad as a child and apart from some memories of the Salarjung Museum, plucking imlis (Tamarind) off the trees in my aunt's sprawling lawns and some crazy torrential rains, I do not remember much. So this time around, I decided to play tourist again. The following pictures are from the Ladh Bazar next to the Char Minar, which is popular for its gorgeous Hyderabadi bangles and other assorted jewelery. When you enter these shops you actually might want to wear blinders to save yourself from buying the entire shop!The shiny, blinding colorful stone encrusted bangles and also the metallic ones with enamel work in beautiful colors, call out to you. You can't help but give them a home! :)

Lunch of ze Birthday

I'm back to my Birthday Series. So the next outfit and my last in the series of Birthday outfits is Birthday Lunch outfit. (Its a pity, I did not manage to shoot a post in my Birthday party finale outfit, H&M dress et al) Nevertheless, lets concentrate on what we have at hand :). Birthday lunch was at my yearly favourite - Sunnys. I don't think I can ever get enough of their thin crust pizzas, pastas or their baked cheesecake for that matter. Sunnys is a place for fine wining and dining and for lunch it has a (for the lack of a better word) very 'Sunny' and laid back vibe to it. In this sweltering July heat (Who am I kidding, its hardly sultry in Bangalore :)), I decided to go alternative with this laid back chic look.

Floral Birthday Eve

The birthday is over so I finally have time to sit down and post all about it. I have had the 3 best days of my life and the birthday week was quite good too. It had to be, its my last one here and incidentally the last one in college. Thats another story. From the choicest birthday gifts from my friends from school and college, the best cakes EVER, surprises from family(my birthday is never complete without those!), the calls, the morning at the spa, the surprise party, the birthday finale at a Sky Lounge in my city and the swankiest one at that ;), it was all there! Can't complain, a girl needs her lovin' :D

LOOONG Day is over

I'm not kidding you. Its been a terribly long day. Not so terrible though. A day long exam. Then night out with friends. And I still thought its the perfect day to post. Last year of college, my fashion content writing job and birthday month is all wreaking havoc in my life. A good kind. If you didn't get that, there's nothing wrong with you :D

Guess where those high waisted pants came from? :) The Great MNG sale. I can safely say I made it on time to bag these awesome pair of navy blue high waisted babies! :)
By the way, have you noticed how On The Floor by Jeniffer Lopez feat. Pitbull has taken over every club and lounge? Not that I mind :) Despite there being no originality in that track! We are all suckers for good club beats I guess.

Golden stack of Bangles with multi colored motifs. Loving these, living in these. For that slight boho-rustic touch.
Golden earrings. Modern minimalist look. Mono-toned dress with these golden earrings. Or a warmer shade of pants with a blouse and these earrings. Or a floral number with these earrings. Ok, too many options! :D
Mac Lip Glass: 'Lychee Luxe' is the prettiest coral number in MAC and is my current obsession.

Oxford Love

I can't think of any reason why one shouldn't love Oxford shoes. They're chic, they're classy, they have Engligh origin and they're the rage this season. When Leighton Meester a.k.a Blair Waldorf wears it or does Taylor Swift, they ought to be taken seriously. I bought myself a gorgeous pair of oxford shoes in suede in a nice tan color yesterday and I think I reached what we call a shoe-gasm! Ok, sorry if you thought that was perverse but really, its hard to control your emotions when beauty stares you right in the face. I have been eyeballing a variety of brogues and it suffices to say that the inspiration below sums it all up!

Coral's Sweetheart

After the short stint of disappearance, I have made a comeback with the post we all love :) It is an outfit post, yes and yes, there is the color coral involved. If that didn't get you hooked, then I don't know what will ;)
The job's keeping me busy and turns out the work is more time consuming than I thought. Its a lot of fun and the sense of joy after finishing the day's share of hardwork is a joy like no other!
Back to the post, the pictures are from my dinner out today. Btw, since I'm already on the topic, the cheesecake at Olive is to swear by! Dinner-dessert-coffee. Life is just fine!

Updo Tutorial

Greetings Fellas!
This post is a guest post done by my BFF- A.C. who did my updo for the GNO(Girls Night Out, again :P) here.
On popular demand and my personal adoration of her hairstyles, she very kindly agreed to do this post for me and click pictures for every step. Follow this and get this desired look:

Hi, this is my first experiment with hair styling and S was kind enough to let me style her hair, so here goes:
The first step for this updo is to make sure your hair isn't freshly washed. Give it atleast 4 to 5 hours after the hair wash.
STEP 1.
For fixing the hairband in place divide your hair into 3 sections with two in the front, near your forehead thinner than the larger one which should behind the hair band. Fix your hairband with these two sections outside the hairband.

STEP 1

STEP 2.
Take the section on the right hand side and twist it, mixing it with some hair behind the hairband. Pin this with a small bob pin.

STEP 2

STEP 3.
On the left side comb all the hair in the section over the hairband and fix it halfway along the back of your head finishing it neatly.


STEP 3

STEP 4.
Now take a small section of hair that has been left loose behind and twist them into a coil. Fix it with a small bob pin. Repeat this for the section from the left side.

STEP 4

STEP 4(2)

STEP 5.
Repeat STEP 4 till almost all sections of the hair are finished. Leave a little hair loose at the bottom of your head above the nape.


STEP 5

STEP 6.
Now divide this hair into 3 sections and make loose plaits. Pin these plaits around the coil in any random order.

Final Result:

Lush-Lip Scrub

This is my latest goodie from the house of Lush. House of Lush, as I like to call it, is the best spot in the entire mall. Even if you happen to be opposite the store, in the row parallel to it, you cannot help but whiff like a little puppy when the scent of all things yummy, ok maybe not yummy, enter your olfactory sense. I put my suave face on and just pretend to not notice it while I'm secretly lapping it all up! :D
Moving on, we were on one of our casual mall strolls when I ended up picking the BubbleGum Lip Scrub from Lush. Its packed in this heavy little pretty glass bottle and smells like heaven. Two things I noticed first :)
Now on to its utility, its not a replacement for a lip balm, most certainly not. But what it does is scrub off the dead skin from your lips, leaving them smelling of bubble gum without any sheen of course.

This is what Lush claims about their product:

Our fabulous lip scrubs are here to keep your kissers sweet. This one will make your lips smell like our best-selling Snow Fairy shower gel. Bubblegum is made with exfoliating castor sugar and our delicious vegan flavour to gently scrub away rough skin, keeping your lips smooth and kissably soft. Simply rub it over your lips when they're feeling the need for some sugar.

I agree, to the extent that it does act like the scrub that they claim it is. Smells yum. *Undeniably*
My only issue with it is that its slightly messy. The sugar particles get stuck to your lips and refuse to fall off on their own accord and the only way they will leave your lips is if you brush them off. Not on yourself please, they get stuck on clothing too. EEEECKKKS.
Price: Rs 600.
If you're looking for a lip scrub, go for it. *Also, you can eat the bubblegum flavoured sugar bits sometimes* Ok, sorry, gross, don't eat it. Just kidding, its sugar, eat it :D

C is for Cookie

Om Nom Nom Nom is the mantra of my life and I tend to say 'meeeeeeeeeee likes coooooooookieeeeeeeeee' very often to just about anybody when I feel like it. If you still haven't figured, I am a Cookie Monster( Read: Sesame Street) junkie! As much as I like Bert, Ernie, Elmo, Kermit and the others..there is no one quite like Cookie Monster. C is for Cookieeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! :)
So while I had been hunting down for the perfect Cookie monster tee, the search wasn't quite yielding desired results. I found one at Zara which on a trial actually looked really sloppy (and my friend would vouch for it!) and was automatically dropped. I have always been a serious fan of graphic cartoon tees. You would remember my Disney escapade here and so it should not come as a surprise of sorts when I tell you the amount of energy that went into looking for the perfect Coooooooooooookie' Monsterrrrrr tee!
But like they say, some people have the slickest ways of bringing a smile on your face and when I found my Cookie Monster tee in a pile of goodies, needless to say I went slightly COOOOOOOOOOOKIE :D

Hairdo for the GNO

For all my readers who are wondering what a GNO is, it is my acronym for a Girls' Night Out :) Those who saw the preview of this post here or who have been regular readers know that I have a fetish for acronyms, even slightly weird sounding ones. Gyaan 101: There is no greater pick-me-up in the middle of the week, than a good time with your favourite girls. And the favourite part of these GNOs is always the play dress-up bit. You know you're going to go insane with the cameras, so it never hurts to go an extra mile and put in that effort to dress up extra nice.
The timing of this GNO could not have been better since my BFF had been itching to try this hairdo on my long hair(YES, its long now :D) for a long while. (Long while: Last 2 classes at Uni is long enough)
I have officially roped her in to do my 'fancy' hair dos from now onwards and you'll should look forward to detailed guest posts from her for the tutorials. For her very acclaimed hairdo, check here.
It was also a good time because this new ruffled blouse I picked on my latest travails in the city of dreams was dying to go for a little whirl.

CFDA Awards

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards or CFDA Awards as they are more popularly known were nothing short of a fashionista's dream come true. Lady GaGa receiving the Fashion Icon Award, Prabal Gurung winning the Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year and his very humble speech, Alexander Wang receiving Accessory Designer of the Year award..were some of my favourite moments.

The crazy ass structured bags on Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are beyond belief! I could not get my eyes off those babies!

Love of the Ladybird

Next stop: Aurus. As soon as that was made clear to me, I knew my little holiday had already become successful. Its one of my most favourite places in the city of dreams and thats putting it mildly. Maybe, it has to do with the memories one makes at a certain place. In fact, I'm sure its that. These pictures have not quite brought out the shutterbug-happy me, but thats probably because us bloggers are always in that all-too-familiar quagmire of posing in the public for our posts. Kitsch Love

The vacation diaries continue readers..so after the confines of the hills, we escaped to the buzz in the city next. This look is my attempt at kitsch and I absolutely loved the feel of it. Note to self: MUST.TRY.AGAIN.
Its a mix and match of a lot of elements. I have paired up my zebra printed skirt from Zara seen here with a golden oversized top from Forever New with a grey colored waistcoat. Added to this is my peacock necklace seen here again and my little rich green box tote. The shoes are the bejeweled ballerinas seen here.
My favourite part, however are the black rimmed cat eye glasses which I added for that kitsch flavour :) I'm absolutely doting on these so pardon me if you see too much of these *fake* reading glasses in some of the posts that will follow. :) I picked these the same evening from my street shopping ventures!
The outfit was put together keeping in mind that it was fun lunch out, lots of shopping and *hold your breath* cupcakeeeeeeeee time. I gorged on the yummiest Red Velvet cupcakes in town at Butterfly and the glee on my face that has come out in some of the pictures is almost *embarrassing* :P Very little girl-esque!

Joys of summer clothing

I'm back from a brilliant holiday and with a clearer perspective towards everything in life, I shall now center my energies towards things that usually take up most of my time. Before the new semester kicks off, let me fill you in with little snippets from my getaway.
Rompers and play suits have taken the Indian fashion scene by a storm and from the runway to high street fashion stores, rompers are making their presence felt everywhere. Might I add, in my closet too :)
So for this sunny first day of my holiday, I couldn't think of something more befitting than this floral romper. Worn with a tan colored belt, my nude stachel (YAAAAAAAAY) and pastel pink bejeweled ballerinas.
The heat did not permit me to wear big fat baubles around my neck, so my rose charmed necklace had to do. No fuss hair do, golden aviators and I was ready to take on the Sun head on. Not making it sound like a war, I had a wonderful time unwinding amidst the hills at a resort. For more stories from the holiday, watch out this space.

Oh Hey Beautiful! :) Yes, you reading the post. I'm not kidding, I do mean you. Oh you think you're fat? Really, not quite an issue..I still think you're beautiful..I know you're reading in your PJs and wearing your reading glasses, but how can that be a measure of your beauty?
There is no objective definition of beauty which is why when I look at a cactus plant, I might find it beautiful while you might not. Lets not look at cliches for once, lets look at how it works instead. Even if we get together a universal set to answer what beauty means to them, we cannot come up with an exhaustive list. Which is why, beauty is so all inclusive.
I am from the school of thought where there is beauty to be found in everything that exists. You heard me. According to me, beauty is a state of mind. When I want to feel beautiful, I ask people who know me to put down a few things about me which makes them happy..which makes them like me. And that according to me is what makes everybody beautiful. I truly live by the cliche that a thing of beauty is a joy forever.(Damn, cliches are so hard not to use)
I have worked with the disabled. There are people who are born specially abled. There are those who cannot see. Today when I write this, it seems awfully important to share that even if a blind person cannot see a beautiful image of a unicorn, they can still paint a picture of it in their mind. And it might not remotely resemble a unicorn, but they might think its beautiful. Because they relate a unicorn to a happy beautiful feeling. Beauty is indeed a state of mind.
I do not unrealistically preach that things that money can buy cannot be beautiful. Buy me a pair of Louboutins and I will be a happy person. If I look through a Tiffany's window, I do usually exclaim, "damn thats a beauty". It is beautiful to wear beautiful shoes but on a relative basis, I would rather be someone who writes beautifully. And that is a personal choice, probably because the latter gives my endorphins a greater kick than the former can.
Which is why, when I tell you looked beautiful when you smiled at my compliments, I did mean it :)

The White Dress

Let me tell you a secret. I'm actually a ninja. When I see people stare at me if I click my outfit photographs in public, I instantly jump back to a normal posture with my hand by my side. So what do I do? I sneak up to the terrace at weird hours of the day or night (still check for lecherous men) and have BFF take my outfit photographs.
This entire look is a rehearsal, almost. Post exams getaway, here I come! :) The white midi dress(my summer staple) is actually my BEST street shopping find ever. In the markets of Pondicherry, I saw this white cotton midi dress crying out asking me to take it home. How could I refuse, it was mutual love <3
Also, my almost futile effort at the bed head look. The look I was trying for was the lazy, laid back look. It just became a clump of hair by the end of it but surprisingly its almost deceptive in the pictures ;)
Tell me if these pictures give you a very Shaam(the Rishikesh track from Aisha) feel. They sure give me that! :)

The belt is from Next which I found in Mussourie and is actually about 5 years old, would you believe that :) Time to recycle the old ladies :)

Black Swan Influence

I know I know this post should have ideally come in with the release of 'Black Swan' in India but my fascination with tulle skirts is at its peak right now so this post is now due.
Black Swan classique fashion brought in tulle and net tutu skirts in India in a big way. How do you know? Well, for one the use of full tulle skirts was seen in the Summer-Resort collection of Gauri and Nainika at the Lakme India Fashion Week for their fantasy themed collection. These skirts are larger-than-lifely-flouncily-pretty. Yes, I just made up a word. Honestly, there is no adjective that the fashion gurus have not used for it. And indeed, there is no lack of criticism for these either. Some say, they are not very practical and the others just find it plain 'ridiculous'.
I shall show you the best tulle picks from Gauri and Nainika's collection to convince you with my conviction in this gorgeous trend of the season ;)

These are not tutus but the tulle knee-length dresses are quite fashionable too. Undeniable, tulle as a fabric is the most gorgeous kind of netting for these dresses and skirts spelling grandiose. I'm lusting after the tulle full skirts this season and would love to style them. Are you?

Nail Love

Greetings !
I was looking at my book and then staring in space for a while and then I stared at my hands for a while which reminded me that I forgot to review my most favourite nail paint of the season for my readers. Its the longest a crush on a nail paint has lasted, apart from the blood red of course. Nail paints are not even indispensable to me in my beauty regime but this nail paint actually makes me want to take some time and apply it on my nails. I do not possess the longest most sleek nails but I like to take care of them and keep them painted.
Presenting to you my peachy love from Colorama, Coral Chic.
This is the only nail paint which I have used more than once and gotten around to actually finishing half of the 8 ml bottle. The nail paint is a fine textured peachy shade with very tiny bits of shimmer to it which actually look beautiful on application. I am fine with the packaging too. Its comfortable to carry around, extremely portable for any bag size.

My only problem with the nailpaint is that its less in its consistency. I would have liked it to be slightly thicker coz one coat just doesn't cut it. Sometimes, you need 3 coats.
My love for the nailpaint still continues though. Also, because its so easy on the pocket. Rs85 for 8 ml is hardly a bad deal.

This is a double coat and as you see, there is scope to put another coat on it if you wish.
I still love coral chic and I think this is a color for the season. Also looking for some minty greens so if you have any suggestions you're welcome to share them with me :)

At 4 in the morning, I couldn't find a better title for the post than a line from Beyonce's Hit Single-All The Single Ladies. Not getting any sleep and browsing random websites, looking for nothing in particular. Yep, thats me.
Moving on to more interesting stuff..cocktail rings seem to be the latest rage..going by the number of celebrities sporting these beauties..from big, chunky rocks( think has beens marrying RICH princes/hoteliers/the likes) to more adventurous vintage rings, they are all over. This ring I picked for a friend from Aldo Accessories got me thinking about how I would probably want many more of these. (Wear an invisibility cloak and pick my favourites, can't be too greedy! )
There's a ring out there for all personality types and here are my picks for different types of dressers out there:) So read and find out which ring suits your style perfectly!

The Owl Ring

This one is for all you fashionistas who HAVE to be sporting what the celebrities do. The 'owl' trend has taken the world over by storm and has left no celebrity untouched. From the pendants to the ring now, its a must-have for the celebrity-fashion follower girl.

The rose ring

The rose ring is for the uber-feminine girly-girl. She will wear a delicate pendant over chunky beads anyday. A delicately carved out rose ring over a chunky rock anyday. This is for those damsels who love their ultra-feminine style.

3-finger knuckle ring

This ring spells out edginess. This is for the woman who loves her power dressing. This is for those not afraid to experiment. Strong, geometrical shapes for the woman who is not quite apprehensive about trying new looks.

Oval-shaped Ring

This is the versatile ring for the ring-lover in every woman. The classic silver oval shape with the chic criss-cross detailing should appeal to all alike and also because this ring's versatility comes through in its use. Be it jeans and a blazer or a salwaar kameez, complements all looks alike.

Ushering in the Summers

Blogger, I can't believe you're doing this to me, I have to repost everything I wrote yesterday. S.U.C.K.S
Anyway, so this is how I ushered in the Bangalore heat..with the scorching heat..the crazy traffic jams..(deflated tyres and inflated egos kind of business :) ), all to make it to lunch with the girls for L's awesome birthday lunch! :)
I'm glad the pictures were taken before I got back from the lunch for what followed were torrential Bangalore rains..yes, thats how unpredictable the weather here is :) Did I mention how much I love it? Oh well, now you know :)

So after a brilliant lunch, desserts at the most strategically placed dessert bar (Jimmy Choo on one side and Ferragamo on the other), mad bouts of laughter, giggles, sniggering and a mad load of picture taking, we got back, just avoiding the rains by a few minutes. Ready to study I guess. Exams around the corner. YUCK *sticks out tongue in disgust*

The temperatures are soaring, the ice lollies are probably the only thing you have the appetite for, bring out those sunglasses and layer on that sunscreen..coz Summers are here :D I absolutely LOVE summer fashion! Coming from India, we hardly have ever had a choice..just the choice to make intelligent, stylish choices about what to wear, carry, eat this summer! :)

Maxi Dress: Fashion magazine, blogs, television, I think everyone has been crying their throat hoarse about how its almost essential to wear one this summer. I think I placed it first coz I still haven't found my perfect maxi dress. Although I am loving this certain striped one that Kim Kardashian is wearing here :)

Strappy Flats, Colorful Ballets flats and wedges in neon colors: Its Summer and a lot of people forego the ballet flat madness for the slinkier strappy flip flops. I personally cannot. Colorful and Printed Bottoms: They are my personal favourites and the most comfortable way to beat the heat. Also, very easy on the pocket. Go for thrifted printed harem pants or palazzo pants in bright colors, with lacey-floral sheer blouses.

Bangles-chunky and not-so-chunky: This summer I see the foray of all sorts of gorgeous metallic bangles into the market. Chunky metal ones, pearly ones with swarovski, Plastic shiny ones..they caught my eye at Forever 21, Forever New, Accessorize and every possible high street brand. I'm personally going for a combination of the thick and thin metallic ones with the golden base, loving those :)

Scarves: No. Scarves are not for Winters alone and they do not belong in our grandmothers' era :) I can't wait to add scarves to dresses of the most summery kind and with blouses and jeans. Also, scarves in the hair is a very chic idea. My favourite scarves in market right now are those at Accessorize. They're crazy pretty and they just, well..seem to be very me.

Outfit Post+Now You're Talking

For the third time in the day. You possibly could not have been such an ardent follower so as to be reading all the three posts..and well, if you are, I consider myself damn lucky! :) Back to the point, I will try and ensure that I make up for the lack of outfit posts and sometimes posts at all for the last one month :P
To begin with, my reader Swati M. asked me about styling options for hot pink tights that she owns. Keeping in mind she is a conservative dresser and not too much of an 'experiment-with-color' person, I designed this outfit post. Hope you like it Swati :)
The most basic and classic way of teaming up hot pink(or for that matter any bold hued tights) is to wear it with a solid colored tunic/dress/oversized tee. I'm a big fan of the tunic-tights combination myself! :) The best thing about this is that you can experiment with a lot of belts on it.
I have used a gray colored buttoned tunic from Vero Moda, teamed it with hot pink tights from Sports Girl, and worn my favourite Spring-Summer belt from Forever New and the floral print of the belt lifts the tunic too.
The shoes are no fuss, supremely girly gray round toed ballet flats from D&A with rosettes embedded with crystals. The necklace has a sentimental story but I shall spare you of the bleary eyed affair just with a note that Best Friend from school and I bought the same necklaces with the rose charms from Accessorize.

Simplest way of styling the hot pink tights :) Simpler still, accessorize it right.
Note: In this crazy heat, avoid over doing the accessories and make up. Simple is good :)

Cheesecake Challenge-IV

And I'm back after a rest of a few hours. Unpacking can take a hike. I have more important things to do. Like tell you about the cheesecake from 'Big Chill'. I had tried their cheesecake once before this and I really could not recall what it really tasted like. However, it was on my list of places-to-go for cheesecake for all the Delhi bloggers and my friends were sure I would find my winner there. This is where the story gets interesting, I hope I didn't lose you :D
So there are a number of Big Chill cafes in Delhi. There is one in Kailash Colony, two in Khan Market, one in Select City Walk Saket. I think I covered them all. Back to the interesting twist. The cheesecake I did end up reviewing is from the bigger, fuller Big Chill in Khan Market. The cheesecake is yum. Without a doubt. Its cheesy, especially love the side of fresh blueberries that they serve it with. The base is perfect. What I did have an issue with however, is that the cake is too soft. Its almost sheer cream.

My rating for this particular cheesecake would be 3.75/5
Now for the twist. I also ended up devouring the cheesecake they serve at the smaller Big Chill in Khan Market. Sorry, no pictures. That, however was well set and chunky like a cheesecake should be. Not to miss, strawberry paste on the side and a sliver of a strawberry on top. If I had to rate that, it would be a 4.5/5
So you see how inconsistency within a restaurant doesn't really work wonders for it.
For the winner now? The cheesecake at the smaller Big Chill at Khan Market and Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf both get a 4.5 and according to me are not be missed :)
Some other places to try cheesecake in Delhi: Mrs. Kaurs in Khan-also for crepes and waffles, Cafe Oz has a decent cheesecake..slightly sour cheese though..if that works for you.
I hope my Cheesecake Challenge was a success and all my readers thoroughly enjoyed reading up on these locations. All the feedback is welcome and of course, your experiences at all these places :)

Cheesecake Challenge-III

The Delhi trip ends here and as much I as would like to tell you about every tale and share every anecdote in detail, clearly it wouldn't be possible. What I do have for you, however are some more cheesecake stories. (Yes, I have an awful lot of holiday weight from all the cheesecake+Latte evenings in Delhi)
Next in line was 'Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf' for the simple reason that their cheesecakes have always been irresistible! I did go a little strict on them this time though :D

The gorgeous Philadelphia Cheesecake here was perfect! Almost! :)
Cheesy, melt in the mouth..yet well set enough for me to bite into it and chew! Accompanied with a Latte or a Cappucino, it works wonders to soar my moods on a blue day!
Thats it, I can't find anything wrong with it..not really anyway! :)
